An election appeal on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation has been dismissed.

This morning, several dozen people filed into the community hall to hear the case between challenger Henry Felix and incumbent chief Wesley Daniels.

Felix was appealing the results of the 2010 vote which he narrowly lost to Daniels.

However, his lawyer failed to show up for the hearing, and Felix walked out shortly after it began.

Speaking outside the community hall, Felix says he left because the tribunal wasn’t following proper protocols.

“And if we’re going to be doing the band customs and traditions we need to present tobacco to the person with the letter, and that did not happen.”

Meantime, the lawyer for the chief says this marks the end of the appeal for now, but he believes Felix may pursue the case in federal court.
