Encanto Potash Corporation says its Muskowekewan First Nation partners will be having a second vote to designate land for the exploration and development of a mine.

Encanto President and CEO Jim Walchuk says the First Nation’s chief and council has passed a resolution to conduct a second vote in February.

Walchuk says, according to Aboriginal Affairs rules, the second vote will only require a majority of ballots cast — by mail or in person — to be in support of the project.

Voting was originally held on November 26th, but was hampered by an out-of-date voters list that included the names of deceased members, as well as less than a majority of members participating.

Still, Encanto notes 80% of those who voted were in favour of developing Muskowekwan Treaty Land Entitlement lands for development of a potash mine.
