The Metis National Council has set a timetable to adopt a constitution.
Over the weekend, members of Metis organizations across the country met in Ottawa to chart a way forward.
MNC President Clem Chartier says they’re hoping to draft a document by 2013.
Chartier says consultations will take place about the process over the next two years.
He says a constitution convention will be held in the summer of 2013, with the idea of adopting a constitution by December of that year.
Chartier says when the constitution is in place, it will spell out a governance system across the Metis Nation.
