A life sentence has been given to a man charged in the fatal shooting of a resident in La Loche last year.

Richie Herman pleaded guilty on Friday to a charge of second-degree murder.

He was arrested after 29-year-old Mathew St. Pierre was gunned down in La Loche on June 5th, 2010.

The judge sentenced Herman to life behind bars without a chance for parole for 12 years.

Meantime, a trial has been set for a second man charged in the shooting.

Curtis Ecklund will go before a judge in North Battleford on March 5th.

His trial is slated to last a week.
