NDP MLA Buckley Belanger says there needs to be more help for youth in the province’s north who attempt suicide.

Belanger brought the matter up during question period in the Legislative Assembly today after hearing from a mother whose son has attempted suicide twice.

He says the concern is what help is available once the youth is out of the hospital and needs help once back home in the north.

Social Services Minister June Draude says there are services like crisis lines and counsellors for those that seek help.

Draude adds there is an active intersectoral committee in the north that includes communities looking for solutions to the issue of suicide in northern Saskatchewan.
