A Prince Albert man has made his first court appearance on accusations he drunkenly ran his car into a northern teenager over the weekend.

The 17-year-old girl was walking in the city’s West Flat Saturday night when the vehicle struck and killed her.

Family members were in court this morning to see the accused, Kirk David Ross, stand before the judge.

Sporting a blue tank top with large tattoos on his right arm, he looked down and wiped away tears as the charges against him were read.

Ross faces charges of impaired driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

According to the victim’s cousin, the girl was from Southend and was just down in Prince Albert for the weekend.

She adds the family is extremely upset by what has happened.

Ross will be back in court on Wednesday for a bail hearing.
