Premier Brad Wall says the Whitecap Dakota First Nation is so successful that non-First Nations people are moving to the community.

Wall says he met with Chief Darcy Bear recently and says this situation is “brand new territory”, because funding would affect provincial and federal jurisdictions.

For example, he says Whitecap has a medical centre and once a doctor is hired, non-First Nations rural residents may want to utilize its services.

According to Wall, provincial resident programs like education and health are funded by per capita municipal revenue sharing, which does not apply to federally-funded First Nations communities.

The Whitecap Dakota reserve is home to the Dakota Dunes casino and golf course.
