Saskatchewan New Democrats are assembling in Regina tomorrow to pick an interim leader.

Athabasca MLA Buckley Belanger says he will not be letting his name stand for the interim position.

However, Belanger says he is mulling over the possibility of running for the party leadership later on.

He says he hasn’t made a decision yet, but he has heard a lot of positive feedback about his potential candidacy.

Belanger thinks it may be time for an Aboriginal premier in Saskatchewan, and he points to US President Barack Obama as inspiration.

He adds it will take time for the party to pick its next leader, and candidates may need to wait six months or even two years for a race to begin.
