The Regina Police Service is continuing to investigate after a 22-year-old man was shot by a police officer.

Police Chief Troy Hagen says the calls for service to the northwest area of the city came in after midnight with reports of a man with a knife.

Hagen says two officers responded and the confrontation was in the street.

He says the suspect was shot once and remains in hospital.

Hagen says the officer who discharged his firearm is on administrative leave.

The investigation continues.
