The president of the Metis National Council says he wishes companies would look past the fact Metis communities don’t have their own land-base.
Clem Chartier recently spoke at a national conference examining the future of Canada’s north.
He says Metis are looking to benefit from the development that is occurring in their respective areas, but too often they find lukewarm responses from industry.
He feels much of that is caused by ambiguity over Metis rights to land.
Chartier adds a major Metis land claim around Winnipeg is set to be heard by the Supreme Court of Canada in December.
