The provincial government is taking steps to upgrade pre-kindergarten rooms across the province.

Today education minister Donna Harpauer announced upgrades to the tune of 1.7 million dollars.

14 school divisions in all will receive assistance in fixing up the rooms.

Some of the schools receiving assistance include Lakeview School and Jubilee School in Meadow Lake, T.D. Michel school in Big River and Rossignol school in Ile a’la Crosse.

Lon Borgerson is the director of education for the school division in Ile a’la Crosse.

He says they had been offering Pre-K classes through the aboriginal head-start program, and this new money will help them expand it even more.

The government says some of the priorities that were focused on with the money include installing washrooms, programming and promoting children’s independence.
