The Prince Albert police service is combing through some videotape today after someone helped a prisoner escape a squad car.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. on Saturday.

An officer had picked up a 22-year-old Black Lake man on drug charges and was taking them into the station to be processed.

The female officer then left the car for approximately ten minutes.

When she returned the subject had escaped.

Police spokesman Kelly McLean explains the officer had gone in to assist other police staff with another prisoner when the break happened.

Mclean says they suspect the prisoner was released out of the car by someone who was leaving the station after spending time in cells for public intoxication.

McLean says if they can find out who it is, they will charge him or her with aiding and abetting someone in lawful custody.

The 22-year-old in the back of the car was eventually tracked down and re-arrested.
