A couple of northern Saskatchewan communities smashed previous record highs yesterday.

Southend hit 26.7 degrees Celsius. The previous record was 20.9 degrees, set in 2006.

The mercury in Collins Bay reached 24.3 degrees — well ahead of the previous mark for September 5th of 18.9 degrees, also set in 2006.

Meanwhile, La Ronge broke its previous record set in 1976 with a high of 26.9 degrees.

New records were also set in Waskesiu, Spiritwood and Melfort.

Environment Canada is forecasting well above-normal temperatures for the province for the rest of the week.
