Mining Conference Looks at Environmental Impacts

Around 80 people have crammed into the conference room of a Prince Albert hotel to discuss the mining industry and its impacts on the environment.

The Prince Albert grand council is hosting the bi-annual conference of the Western Mining Action Network.

Vice-chief Don Deranger says dealing with mining companies can be a balancing act because on one hand they provide jobs to communities.

On the other hand, communities have to know the mine-sites will be safe to walk on when the minerals are gone and the companies have gone home.

Organizers of the conference say they hope people walk away with new contacts and information to help further their respective interests.

The conference runs through until Sunday.
