The anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks is approaching, but people in Lloydminster are remembering another sad day.

On September 1st, 2001, 22-year-old Dana Fair was beaten to death by three men from Onion Lake First Nation.

The crime caused an outrage in the city and created tension between the two communities.

Lloydminster Mayor Jeff Mulligan says, since then, there have been opportunities for the communities to gather positive insights about each other through social and celebratory events.

Mulligan notes Onion Lake and other First Nations are working to acquire property and start businesses in Lloydminster.
