Canada’s Governor General unveiled a new exhibit at Wanuskewin Heritage Park today as part of his Saskatchewan tour.

His Excellency David Johnston opened an exhibit called Mistatim – I Honour You, which looks at the relationship between man and horse.

Johnston praised everyone involved with Wanuskewin, saying the park helps educate people on First Nations culture.

A drum group and dancers performed for Johnston and his wife who are visiting the University of Saskatchewan this afternoon, which will wrap up his Saskatchewan visit.

Yesterday he visited the First Nations University of Canada in Regina, where Johnston talked with students at a roundtable session about what education excellence means to them.

Johnston says the students can use their own experiences to strengthen education for other First Nation students.

In his closing remarks, Johnston says he encourages the student’s efforts to create a better future their children and grandchildren.

Eight students pursuing a variety of degrees expressed their thoughts on First Nation’s languages, funding barriers and treaty rights.
