A Cree historian and writer is pleased that the Battle of Cut Knife Hill in the Poundmaker reserve will retain that name.

Tyrone Tootoosis says the Poundmaker Cree Nation and council asked to have the site’s name changed to Chief Poundmaker’s battlefield.

Tootoosis says that wouldn’t be right, because Chief Poundmaker was a peaceful man.

Tootoosis relayed that comment to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada.

This week that board told him they have no plans to change the name at this time.
