Testimony in a Battleford murder trial yesterday suggests an Onion Lake woman was strangled with her own belt.
The court heard she bought the decorative belt just a couple of days before she was killed.
Gordon Dwight Hurley, a 46-year-old Alberta trucker, is on trial for the second-degree murder of Jarita Naistus.
The 20-year-old mother of two was found dead in a Lloydminster motel room on October 2nd, 2005.
Alaiyne Dillon, Naistus’ sister, said Naistus picked her up at a Lloydminster bus station on Friday, September 30th and they went shopping.
That’s when Naistus bought the decorative, studded belt.
Crown Prosecutor Scott Bartlett showed Dillon a belt in an evidence bag.
She confirmed it was the belt Naistus bought.
The trial began Monday and is expected last for about three weeks.
