A 16-year-old boy is safe after going missing yesterday during a snowmobile expedition.

The boy and his cousin left the Hatchet Lake First Nation and travelled to Moose Island 11 a.m. yesterday to drop off wood at the ice road.

At the time, there was heavy snow and poor visibility.

The cousin returned to Hatchet Lake around 6:30 p.m., reporting that the two had become separated around 5 p.m.

RCMP and the Canadian Ranges searched the area and found the boy’s abandoned snowmobile on Wollaston Lake, about 40 kilometres north of Moose Island, around 10:40 p.m.

One hour after the search began, the boy was picked up by a volunteer as he was walking towards the Rabbit lake mine.
