A man involved in a New Year’s Day assault against two women will be serving eight months in jail.

Twenty-eight-year-old Matthew Kurt Desnomie pleaded guilty in June to two counts of assault and one count of uttering threats.

The assaults took place at a residence in Balcarres.

Desnomie was stabbed several times during the incident and was hospitalized for several days.

RCMP initially arrested two women, aged 20 and 24 years, at the scene — but they were subsequently released and never charged.

Desnomie will also be on probation for 12 months after his release.

He was sentenced yesterday in Fort Qu’Appelle.
