Man Arrested After Stanley Mission Death

RCMP have arrested a 30-year-old man following a fatal stabbing in Stanley Mission yesterday.

 

According to police, 26-year-old Frederick Thomas McKenzie was found on a street on the reserve around 10:00 yesterday morning after being stabbed by a man in an altercation.

 

Emergency personnel performed CPR on the victim at the scene, and then transported him to the local clinic for more treatment, but he died a couple of hours later.

 

An autopsy is scheduled to take place Saturday in Edmonton.

 

The suspect, Michael Cook, was arrested a short time after the stabbing and has been charged with second degree murder.

 

Cook is making an appearance in La Ronge Provincial Court today and remains in custody.

 

Both the victim and the accused are from Stanley Mission.
