Leadership Program Seeking SK Women
Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 15:40
A leadership program designed to increase the representation of Aboriginal women in leadership roles is looking for more participants.
Today is the last day for any Saskatchewan Aboriginal women to sign up for the program, which is put on jointly by the Indigenous Leadership Development Institute, Office of the Treat Commissioner, the FSIN Women’s Commission and Status of Women Canada.
Last year it was a pilot project ran in Manitoba, where 20 women participated.
One of the women who graduated from the program went on to become chief of her community.
Melanie Dean, Project Development Manager, says the program is open to any Aboriginal women who are currently in a leadership position.
The women get up to 5 executive training sessions in one year.
Following successful completion of that, participants will get to attend one national conference.
Options include the World Indigenous Business Forum in New York City, AFOA national conference in Vancouver, and the United Nations forum on Indigenous Issues in New York City.
Anyone interested should contact the Indigenous Leadership Development Institute by 4:30 p.m. today.
