The chief of the Fond du Lac First Nation has pleaded guilty to a charge of refusing to provide a breathalyzer sample.
An impaired driving charge he was facing has been dropped.
Fifty-four-year-old Napolean Mercredi appeared in a Regina courtroom with his lawyer this morning.
Mercredi will have a one-year driving prohibition and pay a fine of $1250.
He will also have to participate in the Ignition Interlock Program, which is where an alcohol testing device is connected to a car’s ignition and power systems and will prevent the vehicle from starting if the driver has been drinking.
Mercredi was charged last May when he was observed leaving Regina on Highway 11 driving erratically and swerving on the road.
