AFN Chief Mum on Lonechild’s Suspension

Assembly of First Nations National Chief has little to say about the recent suspension and impending legal battle surrounding FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild.
National Chief Shawn Atleo says it is solely up to the region as to who is the leader, and then that person will also sit as Saskatchewan’s Regional AFN Chief.
Atleo says he hasn’t been in touch with Lonechild.
Meanwhile, Atleo doesn’t think a recent decision by the FSIN to speak out against the national panel on education has hurt their relationship.
Atleo says sometimes discussions can get heated but says he has strong feelings about supporting all nations and not shying away from challenging topics.
The FSIN has said it will not participate in the national panel.
