More light is being shed on a fatal crash near the Ahtahkakoop First Nation.

A Pontiac Sunfire was travelling west early yesterday afternoon when it collided with a Ford Taurus on a grid road near Canwood.

The driver and front seat passenger, both men in their early 30s, were killed and pronounced dead at the scene — while a male passenger in the backseat was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Two 61-year-old women in the Taurus were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Ahtahkakoop Chief Larry Ahenakew says one of the deceased men was from his reserve, while the other was from the Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

Ahenakew says the survivors received injuries that range from broken bones to bruised ribs.

The chief says his community is coming together as best it can in the wake of the tragedy.
