Police Want Less Frivolous Missing Person Calls

The Prince Albert Police Service is hoping to get a few less calls this year of missing persons in the city.

Sgt. Brent Kalinowski of the Family Safety Unit says officers are getting overwhelmed with the large volume of requests that are pouring in.

Last year, the city’s police service fielded 841 reports of missing persons.

Kalinowski says the majority of these come from care homes.

He wants the public to remember that the police service should only be used as a final option.

Kalinowski says police want to send as many resources to legitimate missing person’s cases as possible — adding they can’t do that when they’re overwhelmed with less serious requests.
