RCMP say a fire that destroyed a home on the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation early Monday is suspicious.

The fire was called in at about 5:30 a.m.

There was no one in the home when RCMP arrived there, and no one was injured.

Southend RCMP Detachment Commander Sergeant Al Presler is one of the officers who attended the fire.

He says people had been living in the home, but they escaped the blaze.

The fire is being investigated by an RCMP Fire scene examiner and representatives of the Prince Albert Grand Council.

Southend is 222 kilometres northeast of Prince Albert.
