A Saskatoon MP says she’s pleased to see the Whitecap Dakota First Nation becoming more accountable to its membership.

Kelly Block says she’s hopeful more bands will choose to follow the band’s decision to open up its books.

The band says it will create a compensation commission that includes setting pay levels for chief and council.

Last year, Block introduced a private members bill that would require First Nations to disclose the salaries of their elected officials to the public.

She says today’s announcement is a good sign some bands are willing to do that.

Block’s bill is currently making its way through Parliament.
