Prime Minister Stephen Harper has agreed to participate in a Crown-First Nations meeting that will stress Aboriginal on-reserve educational reform.

On the closing day of the Assembly of First Nations special chiefs assembly in Quebec this week, the National Chief received a letter from Harper in which the Prime Minister said he will make Aboriginal education a priority.

The AFN says the gathering will have a focused agenda to set out concrete plans to transform the approach to First Nation education, economies and governments.

National Chief Shawn Atleo says First Nations are united in their push for fundamental change to the status quo and a new approach to deal with the long-standing issues “that have held back First Nations and Canada”.
