A new survey being conducted is looking at the roles Saskatchewan northerners play in community policy making.

University of Saskatchewan professor Bonita Beatty is the project lead and says information gathered can show how Aboriginal community members are getting involved and what role they play — whether it’s as an advisor or decision-maker.

Beatty says she hopes the research findings can help northerners take a more proactive approach to community development.

She also hopes to show government and industry that northerners are engaged in the future of their communities.

The survey goal is to reach more than 500 northern Aboriginal residents over the next month.
