The University of Saskatchewan wants to encourage more Aboriginal people to attend university.

Yesterday, representatives from the school visited with officials the North West Nations Education Council, which represents bands that belong to the Battlefords Tribal Council.

U of S President Peter MacKinnon says the university and the education council want to make sure Aboriginal students can succeed at the university.

MacKinnon says they talked about fostering a feeling of respect and comfort for Aboriginal students on campus.

He says they also discussed ways that the university could support the council’s work, and vice versa.

MacKinnon and other university representatives also talked to students at Sakewew High School.
