Northern Mayors Told Roundtable Not Working

Talks are underway at New North’s annual general meeting in Prince Albert to overhaul the administrative arm of the northern roundtable.

Municipal Affairs representative Keith Comstock told northern mayors this morning a number of reasons why the northern table — created four years ago to lobby government on northern issues — isn’t working.

Comstock said the northern table meets infrequently, and there are questions over its membership.

He suggested a couple of ways New North could work with Municipal Affairs to enhance the northern table — including prioritizing each community’s list of northern projects or infrastructure demands.

He also said community leaders should let municipal administrators meet with him regularly to tackle the practical details of issues.

Comstock added he can’t control the money handed out by government, but this measure could help get the ball rolling on certain projects.
