A representative with the provincial government’s Northern Affairs branch says an action plan for the province’s north is moving forward.

This past spring, the government announced it would bring together government ministries, northern leaders and federal departments to work on issues of northern concern.

These include youth suicide, drug abuse and gangs.

First Nations and Metis Relations assistant deputy minister Toby Greschner says they need the input of northern residents to succeed.

He says the first meeting was held in June and they are now preparing to assemble task teams to figure out how to utilize existing resources and identify new resources to address these issues.

Greschner says the action plan will be based around four pillars — educating citizens, creating healthy people, having a strong economy and making communities safe.
