Community leaders from the La Ronge area will sign a Memorandum Of Understanding tomorrow to discuss drug and alcohol abuse and addiction.

The eventual goal is to develop a strategy to battle the many social problems caused by substance abuse.

La Ronge Mayor Thomas Sierzycki says leaders in most northern communities will eventually have to deal with this issue.

Sierzycki says even though it is an issue that affects all generations, one of his main concerns is the community’s young people.

He says the town “jumped at the opportunity” after it was proposed by Cumberland MLA Doyle Vermette.

Sierzycki adds citizens of the region will also be given a chance to contribute ideas on how to battle drug and alcohol addiction.

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Village of Air Ronge and Jim Brady Metis Local will also be signatories to the agreement.
