The Saskatoon Tribal Council signed a memorandum of understanding today with the provincial and federal governments aimed at helping First Nations students in schools in the STC region, as well as providing non-First Nations students with a greater understanding of First Nations culture.

The federal government says the partnership between First Nations schools within the STC and the provincial school divisions will develop joint education plans, provide support to students transitioning between grade levels and school systems, and focus on engaging families and communities to help improve student outcomes.

Indian Affairs says more than 1,000 students in seven band-operated schools and more than 10,000 First Nations students in the tribal council region will benefit from this MOU.
