There will soon be more training opportunities for Aboriginal people in Saskatchewan wishing to get into farming.
One Earth Farms announced today it is partnering with the provincial and federal governments to create the $5-million Inroads to Agriculture Institute, where people can get training in the agriculture field.
The partners are pledging to train 130 Aboriginal people and create 104 long-term jobs.
One Earth Farms CEO Larry Ruud says there will be a variety of training opportunities, from mechanical to custom combining to finances.
Ruud says this institute will fill a gap in training, as he says you can go to other countries for the studies, but there was nothing in Western Canada.
Through the program, First Nations and Metis learners will receive training, certification and job placement support to advance in the agriculture and agri-services sectors.
