The head of the Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans Association says the federal government could be doing more for the country’s returning veterans.

Grand Chief Emile Highway says increasing benefits for wounded soldiers is a start, but doesn’t go far enough.

Highway says many veterans are still struggling with living expenses when they get back home.

He says the government is responsible for putting soldiers in harm’s way overseas, but has been “frugal” with helping veterans.

On the weekend, the federal government announced an additional $200 million in benefits for the most seriously wounded soldiers.
