Father Questions Lawyer’s Story Of Son’s Death

The father of a 22-month-old toddler who drowned in a bathtub in a foster home near Aberdeen doesn’t believe his son’s death was an accident.

Chris Martell is reacting to the version of events presented yesterday by the lawyer of Eunice Wudrich, who is charged with criminal negligence causing death and endangering the life of a child.

Evander Daniels died this past June while in foster care.

Defence lawyer Mark Brayford says Daniels was having a bath with the door open while Wudrich attended to her four other foster children, all toddlers.

He says the family was alerted by the sound of running water and found Daniels face down.

Brayford says the family phoned 9-1-1 while trying to rescusitate the child.

He says his client feels terrible and responsible, but doesn’t think she should be charged.

However, Martell wonders how his son’s death could be called an accident when his body was covered in burn marks except where his diaper covered his skin.

He also wonders why his son would be wearing a diaper in the bathtub in the first place.

Martell hopes changes will be made to the foster care system following the outcome of the court case.

He says he has faith the truth will come out in the RCMP’s report and the work of the prosecutor.

Wudrich’s next court appearance is October 5th.
