Ray Fox of the Sweetgrass First Nation wears two hats.

He’s a North Battleford City Councillor; he also works for the justice department of the Battlefords Tribal Council.

On November 4th in Regina, he’ll be receiving a Premier’s Award to go along with those hats.

Fox is one of 16 Battlefords residents who will be honoured for setting up the Battlefords Domestic Violence Treatment Options Court.

Fox says people in the Aboriginal and Justice community noticed the same people returning to court, facing domestic violence charges.

He gives Judge Violet Meekma the credit for trying to stop that cycle through the Domestic Violence Treatment Options Court.

It’s modeled after one in the Yukon.

Studies indicate that since it started in 2003, the court has cut domestic violence rates in the community.
