Seven candidates have entered the race for the chance to lead the Canoe Lake Cree Nation over the next two years.

The list of candidates for next month’s chief election includes challengers Francis Iron, Peter Laliberte, Eval Lariviere, Norman Opikokew, Robert Opikokew and Calvin Williams-Freeman.

They are matched up against incumbent Guy Lariviere.

Twenty-seven people are running for seven positions on council.

The election takes place on December 14th.

Meanwhile, the chief of the Flying Dust First Nation will be awarded another term in office.

No one chose to run against Jim Norman in next month’s election, meaning he is back in by acclamation.

However, 16 people are competing for four seats on council.

That vote takes place on December 7th.
