First Nations from western Saskatchewan and eastern Alberta have signed a memorandum of understanding.

The Cold Lake First Nations, Canoe Lake Cree Nation, Buffalo River Dene Nation and Waterhen Lake First Nation are all signatories to the agreement.

The bands intend to pursue projects like gas and oil development on the Primrose Lake Air Weapons Range.

Waterhen Lake Chief Richard Fiddler says the goal is to improve the economic status and quality of life for band members.

Fiddler says a steering committee will now be formed to identify priority areas and produce a work plan.

Committee members will report back to their respective First Nations on an annual basis.
