The “1885 All Nations Gathering” kicked off at the city’s exhibition grounds this morning.

Violet Naytowhow is one of the people helping out with the event.

Naytowhow says the gathering is intended to showcase the culture and traditions of Aboriginal people to the rest of Prince Albert.

She says in light of justice, homelessness, and child and family issues — event organizers felt it was important to focus on the positive side of people, adding “we all have something to offer, we all have beautiful identities”.

Naytowhow says singers, entertainers and drummers will hold workshops over the next few days and give presentations to anyone in attendance.

A number of schools from the local area have been invited to participate.
