Young Men Rescued After Falling Through Ice

A local tracker says he just happened to be at the right place at the right time to help two very cold young men whose truck went through the ice on Lac La Ronge.
The truck fell through the ice yesterday afternoon at Hunter Narrows.
The two occupants managed to get out of the water and make their way across part of the lake on foot to a tall island.
It was early evening before tracker Tom Charles noticed their signal fire on top of Baby Gull Island and scaled the cliffs to their location.
Charles says he didn’t know a search was being organized for the lads.
He says he just happened to be snowmobiling in the area after cutting short a trip a day early — and found them in need of heavier clothing.
The trio eventually made cellphone contact with others and travelled to a rendezvous point on Charles’ snowmachine.
Charles says his two new companions told him that they probably wouldn’t have lasted more than an hour if he didn’t find them when he did.
There’s no word on their condition.
The RCMP say when they found the truck later, only the roof of the cab was showing through the ice.
Charles advises anyone travelling across the lake to take along gear for an overnight stay, just in case.
