Wuttunee Removed As BATC Chair After Election Loss

An interim chairman has been chosen for the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs.

He is Ahtakakoop First Nation Chief Larry Ahenakew.

Ahenakew will serve as leader until the tribal council’s assembly this September.

BATC chiefs needed a new chairman after former chair Sheldon Wuttunee lost an election for chief on the Red Pheasant First Nation.

Wuttunee lost out to Stewart Baptiste during an election earlier this month.

BATC executive director Neil Sasakamoose says Wuttunee made a great contribution to the tribal council.

Sasakamoose says the tribal council grew by leaps and bounds under Wuttunee’s leadership.
