TRC Prepares To Probe Residential School Deaths

The research director for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission says the investigation into what happened to thousands of children who went missing or died while at residential schools will hopefully provide survivors with answers and perhaps some closure.
Trent University history professor John Milloy says the TRC has been given some leads to unmarked graveyards where bodies could be located.
Milloy says the research will require poring over numerous documents, as well as taking tens of thousands of statements.
He says because this work has never been undertaken, there isn’t really an estimate of how many children died or went missing during their time at residential schools.
