Thunderchild Man Declared Dangerous Offender

A man from the Thunderchild First Nation may never get out of jail again.
That’s because 37-year-old James Standingwater was declared a dangerous offender on Friday.
A Court of Queen’s Bench justice made that ruling during a hearing in Saskatoon.
As a result, Standingwater will remain in jail for an undetermined amount of time.
The decision arose from a charge of assault causing bodily harm.
Court heard that Standingwater broke into the home of his former spouse, Lorinda Antoine, beat her up and then dragged her to his parent’s house.
She wasn’t able to leave until the RCMP arrived several days later with a search warrant.
Standingwater served nearly five years on remand.
He was also charged with five counts of obstructing justice.
The Crown says he phoned Antoine several times from his jail cell, telling her not to help the Crown.
He also assaulted another inmate while on remand and served eight months for that crime.
