An 18-year-old youth who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted murder was sentenced in a Regina court this morning.
Justice Janet McMurtry handed down a youth sentence of two years and two months in closed custody, in addition to three years in the community.
The teen must also provide a DNA sample, and is banned from owning firearms for 10 years.
The youth, who cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, did receive credit for 670 days in remand.
He was 15 when he accompanied gang leader Daniel Wolfe in the September 2007 killings of 24-year-old Michael Itittakoose and 51-year-old Marvin Arneault.
Three others were left fighting for their lives in the home invasion in Fort Qu’Appelle.
The victims’ families were not in court this morning.
The court heard an assessment of the youth found that he lacks social skills, has a need for approval and also has addiction issues.
The youth was on the run from charges in Manitoba when he met Wolfe in August 2007.
Wolfe was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison, before he was killed in custody.
