Some Wild Rice Growers Faced With Higher Premiums

There will be some changes to wild rice crop insurance this year.

 

Saskatchewan Crop Insurance general manager Cam Swan says compensation for ruined crops is going down from 94 to 80 cents a pound.

 

Swan also says premiums in western and central regions of the province’s north are going down, while they are going up in the eastern region.

 

He says that’s a direct result of claims from last year.

 

There were 60 claims filed from the eastern region that amounted to a little over $100,000.
