A new course in aircraft maintenance will soon be offered through the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies.

Today, the school was awarded $1.6-million from the federal government.

The money will be used to set up a training centre at the Saskatoon airport, where classes will be held.

Saskatoon Member of Parliament Maurice Vellacott says there is a growing demand for aircraft maintenance in places like the north.

Fifteen positions will be offered at the training centre, which is slated to begin operating in August.

The province is kicking in some used planes and some operational funding, as well.
