The 17th Annual National Aboriginal Achievement Awards are being held tonight in Regina, and honouring one of Saskatchewan’s own.
Lawyer Donald Worme of the Kawacatoose First Nation is being honoured for his work advocating for Aboriginal rights and mentoring law students.
Worme says he’s overwhelmed and proud.
According to Worme, “. . . guys like me . . . never expect to be recognized, but when it happens, it’s really good.”
The show will be hosted by entertainer Andrea Menard and actor Raoul Trujillo.
Menard says this awards show is special because it honours everyday people who do their work out of the public’s eye, but are “changing the world.
Performers at tonight’s gala include Crystal Shawanda, Lorne Cardinal, Leemai Lafontaine and Buffy Saint-Marie.
